our history

In 2015 our Founder, Sean, had the original idea to introduce Superhero Mythology to children suffering acute abuse. “Superhero September” was born. Starting with hanging superhero posters on the wall and placing comic books in the magazine rack of the Childhelp Children’s Center’s lobby, the event took form with the first Super Main Event on September 1, 2015. From two events raising $4,000 the first year to 10 events raising $40,000 in 2018, Sean decided the time was right to incorporate his work into a charitable foundation with an IRS 5013C designation.

On January 17, 2019, “Put on The Cape: A Foundation For Hope” was formed and trademarked. A Board of Directors was finalized including Sean as President, Gus Matos as Vice President, and “Lady In The Chair” Danielle Gilmore as Secretary/Treasurer.

our purpose

To empower children suffering from acute physical and sexual abuse to heal. The Foundation’s goal is to awaken the hero within the boys and girls who come to advocacy centers across the country, victims of unspeakable crimes. Someone took their right to be a child away from them. Help us give it back. Superhero Mythology sees average men and women, victims of tragedy, using that incident to become a hero and help others. When the victim child enters the advocacy centers, The Foundation ensures all their needs are met from clean clothes and food, to their favorite Superhero action figure, Barbie Doll, and like t-shirts.

our events

The Foundation uses it’s diverse collection of Cosplay characters to raise money for our causes. Our “Superhero September” drive hosted 10 events and 20 donation drives across the valley in 2018. Events such as “Superhero Shopping Sprees” see teams of superheroes shopping with donated money in area Target and Walmart stores, purchasing much needed items for our Advocacy Center partners. Store employees and sponsors brings their children to aid in our effort. Store patrons join in as well making this a Rock and Roll show Superhero style. Our Star Wars and Princess Teams are available for events from birthday parties to corporate functions. For information on availability, contact Gus Matos (623) 252-9857 or putonthecape52@gmail.com

Sponsorship

All our events are sponsored by area businesses. The Sponsor gets naming rights and is promoted on all our social media and in our literature. Interested in sponsoring an event in your area? Call Danielle Gilmore at (720) 850-0485 or putonthecape52@gmail.com

our why

Simplicity is always the best answer. The last four years, the stories are countless how many sad and scared children instantly changed when presented a Superhero action figure. The change is profound and the emotion sweeps the room when it happens. Our methods work and lets these precious children be children again.
